Common Name: Sagittaria Platyphylla, Delta Arrowhead, Broad-leaf Arrowhead

Sagittaria platyphylla, commonly known as Delta Arrowhead, is an aquatic perennial native to the southeastern United States, particularly prevalent in regions from central Texas to Florida and extending northward to southern Illinois. This species thrives in freshwater habitats such as ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams, where it often forms dense colonies.

The foliage varies depending on its environment: submerged leaves are ribbon-like, while emergent leaves range from narrow and pointed to oval-shaped. During its blooming period, Sagittaria platyphylla can produce small, white, three-petaled flowers arranged in whorls along a vertical stalk, typically flowering from late spring through early autumn.

Although this plant has been in the aquarium hobby for years, yet it remains fairly uncommon. This variety is a beautiful and relatively undemanding plant, well-suited for larger, low-tech aquariums. Its broad, strap-like leaves provide contrast to stem plants.

Notes:

  • This plant can thrive fully submerged or partially emersed
  • CO2 injection and quality soil will yield better growth
  • Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives
