The Tequila Goodeid (Zoogoneticus tequila) is a critically endangered livebearer native to a single watershed in western Mexico. Once considered extinct in the wild, this species has been preserved thanks to passionate conservation efforts and responsible breeding by aquarists. These specimens are USA bred from long-term captive domestic stocknot wild-caughtensuring ethical sourcing and continued support of this species survival.

Named for the Teuchitln River near the town of Tequila in Jalisco, Mexico, this species is admired for its bold body shape and distinct coloration. Males display an orange tail base with shimmering scales, while females are larger and exhibit a more subtle silver pattern. These fish thrive in cooler, well-oxygenated aquariums with plenty of plant cover and should always be kept in social groups.
