Dr Tim’s Ammonium Chloride Solution is a fishless cycling treatment made from reagent-grade ammonium chloride. This solution has been specially formulated to add ammonium chloride to your aquarium during a fishless cycle, fueling the growth of nitrifying bacteria. Unlike traditional ammonium chloride solutions (including nutrient-rich fish food) or pure ammonia, this treatment also contains secondary reagent-grade materials that simulate organic matter and speed up bacterial growth.
When using Dr Tims Ammonium Chloride, you must carefully measure out the amount of the treatment you are adding to your tank to ensure it will all be consumed by your nitrifying bacteria. Ammonium chloride is extremely toxic to fish, plants and other marine life and must be carefully controlled and removed before they are added. It’s recommended that you use nitrite test kits to ensure your aquarium water is ammonia free when using any ammonia solutions during the cycling process.
It is recommended that you use 4 drops of the treatment per gallon (4.5 litres) of aquarium water. A teaspoon is equal to about 5ml which is 100 drops while a tablespoon is equal to about 15ml which is 300 drops.
Ammonium chloride is used in a process called fishless cycling, which is done within an aquarium before fish, plants and invertebrates are added to freshwater, marine and reef aquariums to encourage the growth of nitrifying bacteria. Nitrifying bacteria are key in an aquarium as they remove ammonia and other waste chemicals from the water that are produced by decaying fish food and fish waste.
